Many people worry about what to wear to court. The answer depends on your role, so it helps to check the guidance that applies to you.
Guidance for jurors
GOV.UK says jurors have no strict dress code and can wear comfortable, casual everyday clothes. A smart polo shirt would therefore fit within that general guidance. Two restrictions apply: very casual clothing such as beachwear is not allowed, and headwear is not permitted unless worn for religious reasons.
If you are attending in another role
The GOV.UK page covers only jurors. If you are a defendant, witness or visitor, check the instructions from the court or your legal representative, because a single rule for every role was not confirmed.
A practical approach
Choose clean, modest and comfortable clothes, avoid anything resembling beachwear, and leave hats at home unless worn for religious reasons.
