Online fashion shopping is safest when you know your rights and check a few basics first.

Know the cancellation right

Which? explains that UK shoppers generally have 14 days from receiving the goods to cancel an online order. After you confirm cancellation you have 14 days to send items back, and the retailer must refund within 14 days of receiving them or proof of return, whichever is sooner.

Know the exceptions

Bespoke or personalised items and goods with a broken hygiene seal, such as swimwear, cannot normally be cancelled.

Check return costs

You usually pay to return goods unless the retailer says otherwise. Keep proof of postage.

Check the seller

Look for clear contact details, a returns policy and a delivery estimate. If a price is far below the brand’s normal level, be cautious.
