A collaboration pairs a fashion house with another brand, designer or artist to make a limited collection. They are a way for a label to reach new customers and for partners to borrow each other’s identity.
High street meets high fashion
H&M’s designer collaborations include Karl Lagerfeld in 2004, Stella McCartney and Viktor & Rolf in 2006, Comme des Garçons in 2008, Isabel Marant in 2013 and Moschino in 2018.
Luxury meets streetwear
Louis Vuitton and Supreme released a collaboration in 2017, which appeared on the Louis Vuitton runway in Paris in January 2017. It has been described as the first of its kind between a luxury house and a skateboard brand.
How to buy one
Collections are usually limited, so check authenticity, the retailer’s returns policy and the condition of any resale item before paying.
